Monday Night...are you ready for some roots, y'all...

There came this moment of deep peace last night. Outside of Savasana, it has been years – easily more than 20 of them – since I felt the last such moment come around.

I lay on the floor at the back of the room, at the foot of an old upright piano listening to a man sing his devastatingly beautiful songs. Kids chattered in the kitchen. The potluck dinner smiled in my belly. The living room stage backdrop of handmade tissue paper flowers and string lights gave the room a caress as soft as a newborn cooing and as lovely as a first kiss.

As for the man who sang, I have here to happily announce that the soul of Townes Van Zandt has returned at last, with a Gratitude upgrade commensurate with the do-over opportunity. This time around, his mama named him Dylan Sneed.

Thank you, Dylan. Thank you Huntsville hostess Rita for her speakeasy house show.

Looking back at 18+ years in the City of ‘crete (the “con” kind)…the smaller the town, the bigger the life, I’m coming to believe.

Love,
Bret

GASLAND

Please see this film.

So much of what we actually need does grow right up out of the ground, you know? …without the need for Extraction-based material goods. We soon won’t have a choice - Extraction will some soon day become a last resort at best. Plunder is linear. The Earth’s inner space is finite, and inside of finite things, only circular things can be indefinite.

Money doesn’t grow on trees – but fulfillment, abundance, beauty, nourishment, fuel, oxygen, shelter…such things as these damn sure do. And these things are more than enough…they – along with Water & Each Other – are…everything. Aren’t they, really??

Not to be pessimistic…just gravely concerned: if Earthlings don’t go whole-sale botanical/sustainable, and pronto, people born on this July day may have almost no surviving great grandchildren…just a personal gut-feel estimate.

And though even the Sun is finite, why cut our terrestrial journey short by billions of years?

All my love.
